Update 2.40!!!!

We've finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can't divulge all of the details, but trust us, it's coming.

We aren't yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We're guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks.

Oh its already been confirmed as 2.40. It just hasn't been confirmed WHEN it will drop. Sony is expected to comment more on it soon, and there is the rumor which is backed up by KONAMI'S CEO that a "surprise" is going to be revealed June 12 along with the release of MGS4. This, plus Konami and Hideo Kojima's repeated request for a PSN Trophy/Achievement system, lends good credibility to this "rumor" if you still want to call it that. By now, its more or less a confirmed mystery. We know it will be out soon, but not exactly when, and we also don't know the extent of it.

It would be a very good guess, though, that shortly before, or on the day of June 12, update 2.40 comes out with full in-game XMB and some type of universal PSN Trophy/Achievement system.

Kojima-san DID tell Sony to git they're fingers out there butt holes and implement a trophy system, cuz he was putin em in MGS4 regardless of if they was ready 4 em or not. He makes Sony do backflips thru burnin hoola hoops with just a glare.

Didn't we have a very long discussion about this before with Striker! A bullet to the chest for his next game. In your case, 2 bullets in your chest. I know how much your waitin for this and here's some advice. Start leaving the online news sites, cause me and several other people have got our hands on the ending.

And there you go. If you look under the video it says Sony will announce it next week. Also in case you didn't know from the last link I posted, there will be a clock added to the top right/left corner of the XMB.

The guy who posted this is working on the PS3 version of Bioshock and they got the dev kit with 2.40 to work with.

Haha yeah. When this update hits, if there IS trophies, I am going to become a Trophy whore for a week and go back and play my games.

Also, the Trophy Room in HOME is what I am most looking forward to. That, plus chatting will be cooler than the chat room, and going right into a multiplayer game from HOME instead of going into the game, loading the game, selecting multiplayer, loading, then going into a game.

LOL! Instead of being a hard-working whore you can probably just download the gamesaves for the trophies. Maybe not for the newer games though. I just hope that we do get trophies, if it's in MGS4 I'll find out next week!

I NEVER want a gamerscore implemented because it breeds assholes. But I have always wanted trophies/achievements.

trophies breed asssphincters.

With XBL, you get "achievements" which then adds points to your overal gamerscore. I don't like the gamerscore because thats all people care about....who has the higher score, elitism, etc.

Trophies is a much nicer system of personal accomplishment, which also adds a very nice goal element to playing the games, not to mention replayability. Add that to the eventual 3D Trophy room, and I think its much better than just a gamerscore, which makes people act like elitist assmonkeys.
